Trent Reznor + Karen O's 'Immigrant Song' Gets the David Fincher Video Treatment

The Oscar-winning duo Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross now have visuals to go along with their amazing cover of Led Zeppelin's 'Immigrant Song,' which features the wailing and screeching of Yeah Yeah Yeahs' frontwoman Karen O.

The track first appeared in the teaser trailer for the hotly anticipated 'The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo' adaptation. Now, the fast-action, darkly stylized snippets of Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara have been swapped for David Fincher's signature special effects, allegedly in the style of the film's opening credits.

Who knew that years of singing Adult Contempary hits could be so detrimental to your health?

Legendary crooner Barry Manilow is undergoing surgery to repair torn leg muscles and fix a nasty case of bursitis in his hips. The 68-year-old singer told People, "That's what you get when you jump around to 'Copacabana' for 30 years! Wish me luck!"

This isn't the first time Manilow, who recently wrapped his 1,000th show at the Las Vegas Hilton, has battled medical problems. He told Spinner back in June 2011 about a procedure to remove benign tumors from his mouth that made it very difficult to sing. "It was touch and go for a while there," he said. "They patched me up, but for a couple of years, I nearly spit those two front teeth at the audience. I had a big cyst up there, and they had to remove a piece of my palette. It was a rough patch, but I'm all better now."

Was 2011 the Beginning of the End of 'Selling Out' in Indie Rock?

The boys of Deer Tick have been on fire lately - literally."Massive explosions. I burned my hand," guitarist Ian O'Neil says with a laugh.
Mac Miller On Way to Indie History at No. 1 on Billboard 200 Chart
Recent Billboard magazine cover man Mac Miller is on his way to his first No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart, as his debut effort "Blue Slide Park" should easily top the list next week.
When Will Deer Tick Split? 'If Someone Dies or Quits'
With its fourth album, "Divine Providence," Rhode Island's Deer Tick has finally become "a real band" -- which is what founder John McCauley says he originally envisioned seven years ago.
Bon Iver Releases Deluxe Set, YouTube Films
One film for each track of the singer-songwriter's self-titled album is out now.
Australian act the Avalanches recently called out Bon Iver's Justin Vernon, on Twitter, for selling out. The conversation that ensued made indie headlines.
Partisan Records co-founder Ian Wheeler doesn't lose sleep over the arrangements. His label's alt-folk act Deer Tick, whom he also manages, brokered a deal this fall with Stella Artois for a series of online video promotions that featured original treatments proposed by band and label. Partisan artists have also teamed up with brands like Patagonia, Danner and Stumptown Roasters.

"You can buy advertising for a record, or you can set up a branding partnership where both parties tweet about each other," Wheeler says. "With the second one, you save a lot of money and get great visibility for the band. I don't think it's as dirty a business as it used to be. There are always going to be people who feel like they've been betrayed [by the bands they love], but it's something that is lessening now, as brands become smarter in terms of how they work with artists."

The members of Chromeo aren't batting an eye, either. The duo partnered with Bushmills after another deal earlier this year with Mountain Dew's Green Label Sound. David "Dave 1" Macklovitch says he and partner P-Thugg have made concerted efforts to self-fund things like tour support and video budgets, separate from Atlantic, in order to maintain a level of artistic independence. Brands, he says, provide more of that freedom than anything else. What's more, he's confident the model can stick.

"It's easier for us to deal with brands, because all we have to do is take pictures and create content," Macklovitch says. "It's all creative, and we maintain control. When you get that much freedom and you can preserve that much integrity, you can call it a successful partnership."

Jay-Z on the Throne: Three Albums Could Drop in 2012

Kanye West
Kanye West has noted his regret at releasing two albums in the same Grammy period, but according to the Throne partner Jay-Z, 2012 may see a trio of releases from the two MCs.

"It depends on how this thing finishes up," Jay-Z told MTV News of the duo's current tour. "We - when I say 'we' because I'm in Throne mode - we're in a great place creatively. You might see a Jay, then Kanye and a Throne album next year. You know, we're just really in a great place creatively. We really found our zone."

West leads the 2012 Grammys with seven nominations, with both "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy" and "Watch the Throne" nominated for Best Rap Album. Yet neither was nominated for Album of the Year, a snub he acknowledged during a Throne concert in Chicago earlier this month.

"But I figured out though, that's my fault for dropping 'Watch the Throne' and 'Dark Fantasy' the same year," he said. "I should have just spaced it out a little bit more."

In the same remarks, he also told the crowd that more music was on the way.

"Don't worry, because me and Hov gonna keep on making sh*t," he said.

Taio Cruz Talks About Topping the Hot 100

Wiz Khalifa's "Black And Yellow" -- to one of 2010's big radio jams as we chat with Taio Cruz about his No. 1, "Break Your Heart," which featured rapper Ludacris. "My first single being put out anywhere other than the U.K. flew straight to the top. Number one. And the rest was history." Brit songwriter/performer Cruz says. "I was so blessed and so excited at the same time."
Cruz's hit, which peaked at No. 1 on March 20 of 2010, originally didn't feature Ludacris, he explains. "For America we decided to put Ludacris on [it]. And Ludacris is just such an incredible rapper, every single song he features on, he takes to the next level."
And ironically, Cruz hadn't initially planned to record the song himself at all. "I actually wrote the song for somebody else. Which is quite funny. I suppose fortunately for myself, it didn't get taken by that other artist." Indeed.

Darren Criss may be a star himself, but that doesn't stop him from getting starstruck. At this week's celebrity-filled Trevor Live benefit Criss said one of the coolest parts was "being backstage and rubbing elbows with people," particularly some Little Monster shaped ones.
Lady Gaga's career came full circle for a moment Friday night. The singer headlined Z100's annual Jingle Ball concert at Madison Square Garden, an event that holds special meaning to the New York native. "This was the first live show I ever went to -- whose first live show is this?" Gaga asked the sold-out, tween-heavy crowd. "I used to listen to Elvis Duran every day on the radio and imagine how one day he would be introducing my songs."

Glee's "We Are Young" Creates a Breakthrough For Indie Pop Band fun

Due to a very popular performance last night on Glee, it looks like we might be looking at the next major breakthrough by an indie pop band. When last night's episode closed with a reunion of members of the New Directions glee club, the cast delivered a version of the song "We Are Young" by indie pop band fun. The original version of "We Are Young" was released last September and featured here as the top new pop song of the week. Now Glee has landed at the top of the iTunes digital sales chart for the second time this fall with their performance of "We Are Young." The popularity of the song has also pulled the original from fun on to the chart at #22 currently. That is likely to be enough to generate fun's first appearance on the Billboard Hot 100. Whether or not it will be picked up by pop radio remains to be seen, but this is a song that deserves to be heard. Check out fun's version and the Glee version below. A necessary warning is some may find the fun video disturbing.
